One of five siblings who served in WWII, Private Michael Mannix O'Sullivan (Service Nos:W25672/WX32149) initially served in the ACMF from 19 December 1941 as a Driver with AASC Supply Column, and enlisted in the AIF 'in the field' on 12 July 1942 - graded Stoerman. Private O'Sullivan served in Darwin, NT (10 March 1943 - 24 September 1944) with 24 Coy AASC, and with 52 Australian Transport Platoon in Lae, Jacquinot Bay and Rabaul (24 September 1944 - 15 January 1946). Private O'Sullivan was attached to 52 Australian Transport Platoon at Discharge on 4 February 1946.
Mick was born in Bunbury, Western Australia in 1919, third of eight children of Michael James O'Sullivan (b1888 in Heathcote via Bendigo, Victoria) and Sarah McCarthy (b1886 in Melbourne, Victoria). Michael (a Timber Carter) and Sarah married in 1915 in Dwellingup, where they lived until the early 1920s when they moved their family to Bunbury. Michael worked as a Timber Inspector in Bunbury and by 1925 he and Sarah had settled in Manimup, where they raised their family and Michael was a Forestry Officer. Following Sarah's death in 1940, Michael remained in Manjimup until his death in 1968.
Mick worked in Manjimup as a Truck Driver before enlisting in the Army in 1941. Following his Discharge, Mick worked as a Shop Assistant in Darlington in the Perth Hills, and in 1949 in Claremont, Fremantle married Joan Agnes Walsh (b1921 in Boulder, Western Australia) - Joan was a Hairdresser in Perth before serving in the AWAS (Service No:WF24076). Mick and Joan settled in Floreat Park, where they raised their family and Mick was a Shop Assistant. Mick died in 1992 and Joan in 2001).
