Charles Penrose Walker was a labourer during WW1. His service number was 3636. Charles was born in 1882 in his hometown, Maryborough Victoria. His wife Mrs Mary Anne Walker, and himself, lived in Highan Avenue, Balaklava, South Australia. On the 12th of August 1916, at the age of 34, Charles Penrose Walker embarked from Adelaide South Australia, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat. He was in the 32nd Infantry Battalion in the 8th Reinforcement.

He served with the 32nd Battalion through 1917 and the first half of 1918, with some short periods away at hospital and with 5th Division Headquarters. He was wounded in action at Amiens on the 8th of August 1918, in the stomach, and eventually transferred to England for treatment. The decision was then made to return him to Australia.

He returned back to Australia on the 5th January 1919. On the 3th of July 1958, 39 years after arriving home from WW1 Charles Penrose Walker died at the age of 79. He was buried at the AIF Cemetery, West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide South Australia. His name is listed on he Balaklava District WW1 Roll of Honour.
