He was 31 and the son of Thomas and Harriet Kirby, of Donisthorpe, Leicestershire, England.
He is honoured on the Donisthorpe and Oakthorpe War Memorial which is to be found in Donisthorpe in North West Leicestershire. The memorial itself takes the form of a gateway with the inscriptions on each of the pillars of the gateway.
