One of five brothers (Greg, Sam, Bill and Ken) who served in WWII, Sapper Gordon Melrose Davies (Service Nos:W23622/WX29542) initially served in the ACMF (16 January 1942 - 20 August 1942) as a Gunner attached to 3 Field Regiment, enlisting in the AIF 'in the field' on 21 August 1942. Gunner Davies served with 3 Field Regiment and 10th Light Horse Regiment, and was a Sapper attached to 4 Australian Army Troops Coy in Borneo (Morotai and Labuan) from 13 March 1945 to 17 January 1946. Sapper Davies was attached to 4 Australian Army Troops Coy at Discharge on 1 February 1946.

Gordon was born in Toodyay, Western Australia in 1917, seventh of nine children of Samuel Romney Davies (b1878 in Wasleys, South Australia) and Maude McKennay (b1883 in Kapunda, South Australia). Samuel (a Miner) and Maude married in 1902 in Boulder, and by 1910 had settled with their family in Toodyay - on 'Strathavon Farm', where Samuel was an Orchardist. In 1940 Samual and Maude moved to Wattle Grove in Cannington - Samuel was an Orchardist.

Gordon worked for his parents in Toodyay as an Orchardist, and in 1941 in Perth married Joan Evelyn Blair (b1920 in Perth, Western Australia). Following his Discharge from the Army, Gordon and Joan settled at Osborne Park in Perth, where they raised their family and Gordon was a Bee Keeper. In the mid 1960's Gordon and Joan moved to Chittering - Gordon was an Orchardist on 'Chanteclair Farm'. In the mid 1970's Gordon and Joan moved to Perth - Gordon worked as a Storeman and Joan as a Shop Assistant. Joan died in 1996 and Gordon in 2013.
