Barney got around a bit.
Although Barney enlisted with the expectation of joining the 2/16th Battalion, he went to the 2/48th Battalion. However my father Bill Mitchell "claimed" Barney to join him in the 2/43rd Battalion. They served in Tobruk from July until the Battalion was evacuated. Dad and Barney decided that they should separate to "Minimize the risk" in todays jargon. Dad stayed with 2/43rd and Barney transferred to the 2/16th Battalion where he wanted to be originally. He came back Home and then on to the Kokoda Track.
