War Service/Promotions: Proceeded overseas to France on 21 November 1916. Then on 27 January 1917 admitted to 10th Field Ambulance with deafness, and discharged the same day. Wounded in action 7 June 1917. Invalided to England 8 June 1917 from 83rd General Hospital, Boulogne, France, with a gunshot wound to face. Admitted to Exeter Military Hospital (Grouped Auxiliary Hospital), Exeter, Devon, England, 9 June 1917 with contused eye. Transferred from Exeter to 1st Australian Hospital, with gunshot wound right eye. He was returned to Australian from England for discharge with defective vision, and discharged 19 January 1918.

Fate: Returned to Australia per SS Port Lyttleton, 19 October 1917. He married Ethel Lovedale Tiedeman, 3 July 1920, St Luke's Church of England, Homeville, West Maitland, NSW
