Private Lewis Sydney Guy (Service No:VX6271) initially served in the Militia (Private; Service No:446701) from 1 April 1939, then in the ACMF (Private; Service No:V57978) with 8th Battalion before Discharging to enlist in the AIF on 15 September 1941. Private Guy was attached to 19 Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 1 November 1941 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for service in the Middle East. Transferred to 2/28th Infantry Battalion on 21 August 1942, Private Guy embarked from the Middle East for Sydney on 27 February 1943. He then served in New Guinea (7 August 1943 - 28 January 1944) and was attached to 2/28th Battalion at Discharge on 14 December 1945.
Lewis was born in Portland, Victoria in 1916, fourth of seven children of William Gilbert Guy (b1887 in Portland, Victoria) and Hannah Nicholson (b1888 in Great Western, Grampians, Victoria). William (a Fisherman) and Hannah married in 1909 in Portland, where they settled and raised their family and William was a Fisherman. By 1918 William and Hannah had moved to Stawell, Victoria where William worked as a Fishmonger and Coach Driver before settling in Melbourne in the early 1940s - William worked as a Labourer.
Lewis (aka Louis) worked in Stawell, Victoria as a Grocer's Assistant and Grocer. Following his Discharge from the Army, Lewis was a Grocer in Melbourne in 1945 when he married Coralie Smith (b1924 at Mole Creek via Deloraine, Tasmania). Lewis and Coralie settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Lewis worked as a Grocer, Warehouseman and Storeman. Lewis died in 1987 and Coralie in 2011.
