Youngest of three siblings who served in WWII, Private Wesley Edgar Hingston (Service No:TX3860) enlisted in the AIF on 15 July 1940, and was attached to 2/40 Infantry Battalion on 8 December 1941 when he embarked with his Unit from Darwin for Koepang, Timor. Reported as Missing on 24 April 1942, Private Hingston was confirmed as a PoW (No:783) of the Japanese at Tanjong Pagar PoW Camp in Java. Recovered from the Japanese on 12 September 1945, Private Hingston embarked from Singapore for Sydney on 24 September 1945, and was hospitalised before Discharge on 5 December 1945.

Wesley was born at Whie Hills, Tasmania in 1919, youngest of 9 children of Hubert William Henry Hingston (b1878 in Westbury, Tasmania) and Marion Blanche Trethewie (b1881 at White Hills, Tasmania). Hubert was a Farmer at White Hills in 1902 when he and Marion married in Launceston, and settled at White Hills where they raised their family and Hubert was a Farmer.

Wesley was working in White Hills as a Farm Labourer when he enlisted in the AIF in 1940. Following his Discharge, he married Gwenneth (Gwen) Jean Watson (b1932 in Launceston, Tasmania) in 1951 in Launceston. Wesley and Gwen settled in St Leonards, where they raised their family and Wesley was a Labourer. Wesley died in 1996 and Gwen in 2019.
