Biography contributed by Barker Gary

At the time of his enlistment, Ben gave his contact details as care of Mr R. Jaynes, King Island. He was a foster child and would have come to the island for work, most likely as a farm labourer. When he was captured by the Japanese in February 1942, he was still remembered on King Island and was mentioned in a a local fund raising event for POWs. After his discharge he settled on the main island of Tasmania.
