Born in Albany WA in 1907, James Jnr was the second of six children of James Robert Long Morrish (b1878 in Portsea Island, England) and Florrie Julia Roberts (b1880 in Durban, South Africa). Robert (a Platelayer) and Florrie married in 1903 in Lower Umgemi, South Africa) and emigrated in1904, arriving in Albany WA on board the Rune. James worked as a Platelayer with WAGR, and lived in Albany, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie before settling in Narrogin WA.

James worked as a Plumber in Narrogin WA, and lived with his parents until he enlisted in the Australian Army in August 1940. He was a Private (Service No:WX7811) attached to 2/28 Infantry Battalion when he Discharged in November 1945. Sister Phyllis (Service No:WF94523) also served in WWII.

Returning to Narrogin WA following his Discharge, James lived with his mother - James Snr had died in 1945. James worked as a Truck Driver in Narrogin, where he died in 1974.
