Arthur was the fourth of seven children of Arthur Charles Fickling (b1867 in Patrick's Plains, NSW) and Elizabeth Julia Ann Rose (b1879 in Moree, NSW). Arthur Snr (a Teamster) and Elizabeth married in 1896 in Goondiwindi, QLD and by 1897 were living in Pinjarra, WA. The couple lived in the Murchison Region in WA - Day Dawn, Dongara and Mingenew) - where Arthur Snr was a Teamster. Following his death at Nangetty Station in 1910, Elizabeth settled in Mingenew WA where she remarried in 1917 and had another two children.
Arthur worked as a Police Constable in Southern Cross and in 1930 married Louisa (Lou) May Dyson (b1908 in Fremantle, WA) in Perth WA. The couple settled in Perth WA and Arthur worked as a Constable in Perth and Fremantle until he was Discharged in 1934 for theft. Whilst Arthur was impprisoned, Lou worked as a Storekeeper in Perth, and by 1937 the couple moved to Southern Cross where Arthur was a Miner.
In May 1941 Arthur enlisted in the Australian Army (Corporal; Service No:WX13699) and was attached to 2/28 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in October 1945. Lou settled in Perth WA where she died in 1990. Arthur died in Katanning WA in 1967.
