Biography contributed by Cherilyn McMeekin

Frank's birth in December 1912 was registered as Frank JONES in 1913 (Plantagenet district, reg. 26). No father's name is listed, only his mother Mabel Victoria PAYNE. Her first husband, William Robert JONES, had died in an accident aboard the SS Koombana in July 1911, so he could not have been Frank's father.

Mabel moved to Broken Hill and partnered with Walter MACKIE. They had three daughters together between 1914 and 1918. Walter died in Broken Hill in 1918 aged 42; their youngest daughter died in 1919.

Mabel returned to WA with her children and in 1920, she married Roderick Malcolm McDONALD, who had served in WWI. They had a son named Malcolm Mervyn in 1921, known as Mervyn, who also enlisted in WWII.

Frank's half-sister Phyllis died in 1934, aged 18 (see https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/33249000).

Frank married Freda Coralena MANSON, known as Biddy, in Koorda in 1936 (see https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/255636921). He died in 1991 aged 78, and Freda in 1986 aged 78.
