Younger of two siblings (Dorothy and James) who served in WWII, Private James Wentworth McLeish (Service Nos:N453993/NX161941) enlisted in the ACMF on 19 March 1943, and was attached to 1 Australian Armoured Corps Training Brigade at Puckapunyal on 13 May 1943 when he Discharged to enlist the following day in the AIF. Private McLeish - Driver Mechanic - served in Morotai (19 June 1945 - 19 September 1946) with Morotai Details Depot, 1 Armoured Regiment and 3 Australian Ordnance Vehicle Park, and was attached to 10 Australian Ordnance Vehicle Park at Discharge on 28 October 1946.
The youngest of three children, Mac was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1925 to James Edgar McLeish (b1894 in Warren, New South Wales) and Dorothy Hilda Bucknell (b1894 in Kogarah, New South Wales). James was a Grazier in 1915 when he enlisted in the Army (Bombardier; Service No:18700), and he and Dorothy married in Sydney in 1919. The couple lived in Sydney and Coonamble, where they raised their family and James was a Grazier.
Mac was a student at The King's School Parramatta - where he served in the Cadet Corps - in 1943 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1949 in Sydney he married Barbara (Bibby) Jane Grose (b1924 in Rabaul, New Guinea) - Bibby served in the WRANS (Leading Coder; Service No:WR/1166). Mac and Bibby settled at Thurn via Coonamble, where they raised their family and Mac was a Grazier until his death in 1983. Bibby died in 2007.
