George Dodd
George joined the Australian Contingent for the South African Boer War and served as a Lance Corporal with Doyle's Australian Scouts in 1902.
On 11 August 1914, George enlisted in the Australian Naval & Military Expeditionary Force that was sent to Rabaul to fight the Germans. On returning to Australia, he was "discharged - time expired" from the ANMEF on 4 March 1915.
On 27 July 1915, George enlisted in the AIF and joined the 5th Reinforcements for the 17 Battalion. On 16 February 1916, the 5th Reinforcements were transferred to the 55th Battalion and George was promoted to Sergeant on 10 July 1916. On 15 May 1917, at Bullecourt, he received a gunshot wound to the chest and was returned to Australia on 18 November 1917. He was discharged as medically unfit on 20 December 1917.
George certainly served his country well!!
