Private Arthur Noel Thomas (Service No:W38344) served in the ACMF from 20 October 1941 to 3 June 1945 and was attached to 9 Advanced Workshops and 2 Battalion (WA) VDC.
Arthur was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1892, second of eleven children of Watkin (William) Wynn Thomas (b1861 in Worcestershire, England) and Mary Elizabeth Avery (b1863 in Warwickshire, England). William was a Draper in Melbourne in 1890 when he and Mary married - Mary had arrived in Melbourne earlier that year on board the Oruba. William and Mary moved from Melbourne in 1898, settling in Victoria Park, Fremantle where they raised their family and William was a Draper/Storekeeper.
Arthur worked as a Commercial Traveller, and in 1938 married Mavis Gwendoline Cope (b1897 in Geraldton, WA) - Mavis had lived in Bunbury since 1903. Arthur and Mavis settled in Victoria Park, where Arthur worked as a Commercial Traveller, and in 1940 was a Labourer when he enlisted in the ACMF. Following his Discharge, Arthur and Mavis settled in Rivervale in Perth, where Arthur worked as Government Employee (Clerk) until his death in 1962. Mavis died in 1970.
