Private Elbert Reginald Dale (Service Nos:N211745/NX122607) initially served in the ACMF wirh 2 Australian Base Ordnance Depot (16 March 1942 - 17 August 1942), and was attached to 2 Australian Advanced Ordnance Depot when he enlisted in the AIF 'in the field' in Bathurst on 18 August 1942. Private Dale was attached to 5 Australian Base Ordnance Depot (BOD) at Discharge on 5 April 1946.

Sixth of eight children, Elbert was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1923 to Ethelbert (Bert) Dale (b1890 in Brighton, Victoria) and Lucy Olive Follan (b1890 in Strathfield, New South Wales). Bert was a Tanner in Sydney in 1910 when he and Lucy married in Adelong. The couple settled in Regent's Park in Sydney where they raised their family and Bert worked as a Tanner until his death in 1952.

Elbert was a Shop Assistant/Grocer in Sydney in 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1944 in Hopetoun, Victoria he married his first wife Beryl Jean Pickering (b1922 in Hopetoun, Victoria) - Beryl was a Private (Service No:Vf509192) in the AWAS. Following Discharge, the couple separated - Beryl returned to Hopetoun where she remarried in 1958, and Elbert returned to Sydney. Elbert worked as a Shop Assistant/Grocer and Storeman in Sydney, and in 1961 remarried to Veronica Colleen Dale (nee Murray; b1925 in Richmond, New South Wales) - Veronica was a Widow. Elbert and Veronica settled in Sydney, where Elbert was a Storeman until his death in 1985. Veronica died in 2011.
