"MR D. G. PENDER
The death occurred suddenly on Friday night of Mr David Glaud Pender newsagent of Mornington. He went to Mornington 17 years ago after conducting a newsagency in North Carlton for 3 years. Mr Pender saw active service in the Great War and was wounded in France just before the Armistice. He served in the 10th Fld Coy Engineers with his 2 brothers Lieuts J. T. and J. S. Pender. Mr Pender was a member of the Mornington RSA and was an ARP warden. He leaves a widow and 2 sons. The funeral at Mornington Cemetery on Sunday was largely attended. Returned soldiers accorded him a military funeral. A bugler from the Mt Martha Camp sounded Reveille and the Last Post." - from the Melbourne Argus 22 Sep 1941 (nla.gov.au)
