Cyril was the eldest child of Francis (Frank)William Stroud (b1882 in Somerster, England) and Susan Mary Vagg (b1879 in Glamorganshire). Frank (a Tailor) and Susan married in 1907 in Torrington, Devon. The family lived in Surrey, where Frank was a Master Tailor and served in the Royal Air Force (Service No:7916) in WWI. The family immigrated in 1923, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Esperance Bay. They settled in Busselton where Frank was a Farmer.

Cyril was a Farmer when he married Bessy May Stinton (b1913 in Greenbushes, WA). He and Bessie settled on Myob Farm in Boallia and in May 1942 Cyril enlisted in the ACMF. He served as a Private (Service No:W70209) and was attached to 5 Battalion VDC when he was Discharged in 1945.

Cyril and Bessy remained on Myob Farm in Boallia until retiring to Busselton in the early 1970s. Cyril died in 1976 and Bessie in 2004.
