Ernie was the eldest son of Ernest (Joe) Preston Ecclestone (b1893 in Boyanup, WA) and Ethel May Smith (b1920 in Boyanup, WA). Joe (an orchardist) and Ethel married in 1920 following Joe's return from WWI (Driver; Service No:29598). Joe and Ethel settled in Boyanup where Joe was an Orchardist.
Ernie was a Farm Labourer in Boyanup WA when he enlisted in the ACMF on 26 April 1942. He served with 5 Battalion (Bunbury) VDC and was Discharged on 24 August 1945.
In 1948 Ernie married Betty Lynette Stephens (b1923 in Northam, WA). The couple settled in Boyanup where Ernie was a Farm Labourer before moving to Picton WA in the early 1970s where he worked as a Nurseryman. Betty died in 2008 and Ernie in 2026.
