Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Raymond was the second of three children of Alfred Mathosius Abrahams (b1865 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Esma Elizabeth McLaughlin (b1881 in Dunkeld, Victoria). Alfred - a Brickmaker - and Esma married in Dunkeld, Victoria in 1902 and settled in the region.

Raymond was a Brickmaker in Dunkeld when he married Iris Smart (b1912 in Ararat, Victoria) in 1938 in Portland, Victoria. In 1942 Raymond enlisted with the Australian Army, serving as a Private (Service No:VX78519) with 3 Docks Operating Coy (March to May 1942). In July 1942 he enlisted with the ACMF and was a Corporal (Service No:V390236) attached to 9 Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps when he was Discharged in September 1945.

Raymond and Iris remained in the Grampians Region where Raymond worked as a Brickmaker. In the early 1970s when Raymond retired, they moved to Warnambool where Iris died in 1988 and Raymond in 1991.
