Private Gordon John Thomas Henderson (Service No:W70786) served in the ACMF with 5th and 14th Battalions VDC from 14 June 1942 to 31 July 1944 (placed on Reserves List). Brothers Don, Bert and Arty also served in the ACMF.
Eldest of seven children, Gordon was born in Mildura, Victoria in 1901 to William John Henderson (b1876 in Natamuk, Victoria) and Elsie May Nash (b1883 in Goolwa, South Australia). William was a Carter in Mildura in 1900 when he and Elsie married. By 1904 they had moved to Western Australia, where they lived briefly in Perth before settling at Scotts Brook via Boyaup Brook, where they raised their family and William was a Farmer.
Gordon worked as a Farmer at Scotts Brook via Boyup Brook, and in 1927 married Hilda (Laura) May Waters (b1905 in Bridgetown, Western Australia). Gordon and Laura settled at Winnijup via Boyup Brook, where they raised their family and Gordon was a Farmer. Gordon was involved in numerous local organisations, and served as a Member of the Upper Blackwood Road Board and South West Districts Hospital Association. In 1947 Gordon was killed near Bridgetown when the truck he was driving collided with another truck in heavy fog. Laura, left a Widow with five children, died in 1996.
