Frank, as he was known, was born in France to Alfred Croydon and Marie Albertine Ashwin. In 1927 when FRank was two years old, the Ashwin family finally relocated back to Western Australia, settling in the Perth suburb of Belmont where Frank was raised.
Not much is known about Frank's life post his childhood, other than to say that he became estranged from his family, he never married. It is suspected that Frank's younger brother's tragic death in 1949 at age 18 years in a motor vehicle crash had an adverse effect on Frank.
Francis died in Royal Perth Hospital age 49 from Carcinoma of the kidney. His last known address was 42 Barlee Street, Mt Lawley.
