West Adelaide Football Club involvement: In Blood, Sweat and Tears by M.Agars, James Foggo is listed as having played 2 games for WAFC in 1921. However, only Edward Foggo is listed on West Adelaide Football Club World War One Honour Roll. He made his debut on 9 July 1921. However, Edward did play 4 games for Port Adelaide Football Club. James and Edward had a younger brother, Robert, who was killed at Ypres, Belgium on 1 October 1917.
Biographical details:
Edward was the son of Robert and Mary Foggo (nee Clark) of Hope Valley. He left Adelaide on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on 12 August 1916 and disembarked at Plymouth, England on 20 September 1916. He then proceeded to No. 4 training Camp at Codford, where he was attached to the 12th training Battalion. On 2 January 1917, his unit was sent to France on the Princess Henrietta. Edward was hospitalised with influenza in mid-January and early April, prior to rejoining his unit at Rouen on 28 May. Edward continued to serve in France until the cessation of hostilities in November 1918. He was granted leave in England from 27 January to 13 February 1918.
On 9 October 1918, Edward’s mother Mrs. Mary Foggo wrote to Army Base records, Melbourne requesting any further mail from her son be sent to her at 30 Lurline Street, Mile End, South Australia. Edward returned to Australia on board the Frankfurt on 1 July 1919 and was discharged on 28 January 1920. “ He married Lena Bauer after returning from France after serving in World War 1. Edward later received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. Edward and Lena had no children. They owned and worked a market garden on the banks of the River Torrens near what is now called Vale Park. Edward died in 1955 aged 63 and is buried in the Hope Valley Cemetery”( information courtesy of James Foggo). Edward died on 20 July 1955.

Son of Robert Foggo and Mary Foggo nee Clark of Hope Valley, SA. Brother of John Henry Foggo, Jane Foggo, James Foggo who returned to Australia on 13 April 1919 having served with the 50th Battalion, Robert Albert Foggo who was killed in action on 1 October 1917 while serving with the 10th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on Menin Gate, Ypres; Anne Mary and Helen Mary Foggo
