Lance Corporal Roy Francis Stephens (Service No:VX121533) served in the ACMF (Service No:V161073) with Bulk Issue Petrol and Oil Depots (BIPOD) from 19 May 1942 to 26 January 1943 when he enlisted in the AIF. Lance Corporal Stephens served with 59 and 60 BIPODs and was posted to Adelaide River, NT (5 August 1943 - 26 November 1945). He was atatched to 1 BIPOD (AIF) at Discharge on 18 December 1945.
Roy was born in Warracknabeal, Victoria in 1910, second of four children of Cecil (Frank) Francis Stephens (b1885 in Nhill, Victoria) and Mary Frances Roberts (b1879 in Minlacowie, South Australia). Frank was a Farmer at Willenabrina via Warracknabeal in 1908 when he and Mary married in Warracknabeal. They lived in Willenabrina and Portland where they raised their family and Frank was a Farmer.
Roy worked as a French Polisher in Portland and in 1938 married Jean Oliver Grinham (b1913 in Casterton, Victoria). Roy and Jean lived in Portland where they raised their family and Roy was working as a French Polisher when he first enlisted in the Army. By 1942 he was a Salesman, and following his Discharge was a Shopkeeper. Roy died in 1998 and Jean in 2005.
