Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

LIEUTENANT R. CORKHILL, D.C.M.
The many friends of Mrs. R. P. Corkhill, of Queen Victoria-street, Fremantle, will be pleased to learn that she has received  news that her husband, Sergeant Robert Corkhill. D.C.M., who left here with the 44th Battalion, has received his commission. Lieutenant Corkhill was decorated with the Distinguished Conduct Medal in the field during the South African campaign for his gallant action in carrying a wounded comrade (Corporal Messer) out of the range of the Boer rifles whilst under a withering fire. in an action a few miles out from Diamond Hill on June 11 1900. On his return to Australia he was one of those chosen to represent Western Australia at the late King's coronation in 1901, and later he was selected to go east on the occasion of the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York to Melbourne.
