Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Laurence Douglas Hardy (Service No:V350058) enlisted in the ACMF on 12 September 1942. He was attached to 1 Battalion VDC when he was Discharged on 21 July 1944.

Born in 1914 in Perth WA, Laurie was the second of five children of Austin Hardy (b1878 in Middlesex, London) and Hilda Mary Douglas (b1884 in Sydney, NSW). Austin immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1893, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Helena Mind. Austin (a Clerk) and Hilda married in Perth WA in 1908 and lived in Perth and Wagin where Austin worked as a Clerk and an Accountant. The family moved to Melbourne, Victoria in the 1920's and Austin worked as an Accountant.

Laurie worked as a Sheetmetal Worker and Panelbeater in Melbourne where, in 1942, he married Norah Sheila O'Callaghan (b1922 in Melbourne, Victoria). Laurie and Norma settled in Melbourne and following his service in WWII, Laurie worked as a Draftsman. Laurie died in 1983 and Norma in 2003.
