Youngest of four brothers who served in WWII, Private Raymond George Turner (Service Nos:W40565/WX34484) enlisted in the AIF at Capel WA on 17 December 1941, and was attached to 11th Battalion 'in the field' at Dandarragan on 24 October 1942 when he transferred to the AIF. Private Turner was attached to 11th Battalion at Discharge on 8 May 1944.

Goerge was born in Capel, Western Australia in 1923, sixth of seven surviving children of Frederick Henry Turner (b1885 at Goodward Saw Mill, Lockville, Western Australia) and Fanny Shortland (b1888 in Greta, New South Wales). Frederick (a Butcher) and Fanny (a Dressmaker) married in 1911 in Capel, where they settled and raised their family and Frederick was a Butcher and Farmer.

George worked in Capel as a Butcher (Turner's Butcher Shop), and in 1949 in Capel married Pauline May McKay (b1931 in Geraldton, Western Australia) - George was a football player and Pauline a hockey player. George and Pauline settled in Capel, where they raised their family and George worked as a Farmer and Butcher, and served as a member of the Capel Sports Council Committee. In the mid 1960s George and Pauline moved their family to Perth, where George was a Labourer with the Water Austhoriy. George died in 1987 and Pauline in 2011.
