Youngest of three brothers who served in WWII, Private Leslie George Onley (Service No:W24323) served in the ACMF with 11 Battalion VDC from 27 February 1941 to 7 September 1944.
Born in North Fremantle, Western Australia in 1920, Les was youngest of eight children of Walter (Wally) Charles Onley (b1880 in Thebarton, Adelaide, South Australia) and Amy Ellen Jones (b1882 in Perth, Western Australia). Wally was an Assistant Butcher in Adelaide before moving to Fremantle, where he and Amy married in 1904. The couple settled in North Fremantle, where they raised their family and Wally was a Driver.
Les was working as a Tanner in North Fremantle in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army, and in 1947 in Fremantle married Audrey Florence Newman (b1921 in Northam, Western Australia) - Audrey was working in Northam as a Waitress. Les and Audrey settled in North Fremantle, where they raised their family and Les was a Tanner until retirement in the 1980s. Les died in 2000 and Audrey in 2002.
