Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private John William Green (Service No:W75899) enlisted in the ACMF on 20 April 1942 and served with 15 Battalion VDC until his Demobilisation on 18 October 1945. Private Green was one of seven brothers who served in WWII.

Born in 1905 in Kanowna in the Goldfields in WA, John was fourth of twelve children of William Henry Green (b1878 at Halls Gap in the Northern Grampians in Victoria) and Clara Elizabeth Crudace (b1877 in Stawell, Victoria). William (a Miner) and Clara married in 1900 in Stawell, Victoria, and by 1902 had relocated to the WA Goldfields. William worked as a Miner around the Goldfields - at Coolgardie, Bulong, Kalgoorlie, Boorara, Kanowna, Burbanks and Norseman. William and Clara moved to Manjimup WA in the late 1920s and William was a Farmer. William died in 1935 and Clara in 1938.

John was a Timber Worker living at Horseshoe Bend Farm in 1931 when he married Irene Dorothy Andrews (b1912 at Mornington Mill, WA). In the early 1940s John and Irene moved to Bullfinch in the Murchison in WA where John was a Battery Hand, Mine Worker and Engine Driver. They remained at Bullfinch and Yilgarn until the late 1950s when they moved to Stoneville where John was a Farmer. By 1968 they had returned to the Goldfields and John was working in Boulder/Kalgoorlie as an Engine Driver. John died in 1985 and Irene in 2004.
