Elder of the two brohers (Percival and Lewis) who served in WWII, Sergeant Percival Blake MiD (Service No:VX45806) enlisted in the AIF on 17 July 1940 as a Private with 15 Infantry Training Battalion, and was a Corporal when he served in the Middle East with 2/14 Infantry Battalion and Special Guard Coy (5 October 1940 - 8 August 1942). Corporal Blake served in New Guinea (7 August 1943 - 28 January 1944) with 2/28 Infantry Battalion, and was  Mentioned in Dispatches on 31 August 1943 (London Gazette: 24 June 1943; Commonwealth of Australia Gazette: 16 March 1944). Sergeant Blake was attached to 2/28 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 17 September 1945.

Percy was born in Landsborough via Stawell, Victoria in 1909, seventh of eleven children of James Lawrence Blake (b1867 in Landsborough via Stawell, Victoria) and Esther Mary Dean (b1876 in Landsborough via Stawell, Victoria). James and Esther married in 1894 in Stawell and settled in Landsborough, where they raised their family and James worked as a Labourer.

Percy worked as a Labourer in Stawell before enlisting in the Army in 1940. Following his Discharge in 1945, Percy returned to Stawell, where in 1951 he married Mary (Maisie) Christina Kirk (nee James; b1915  in Stawell, Victoria). Percy and Maisie settled in Stawell, where Percy worked as an Overseer. Percy died in 1986 and Maisie died in 2005.
