Frank was the third of five children born to Frank and Frances. His only brother, Albert, also enlisted (Sgt, WX13867). 

Frank's father died in 1920, aged only 46. His mother, Frances, did not remarry and died in 1950.

Frank jnr married in 1938 to Lucy HIRD. He enlisted in Oct 1940, embarking in Jul 1941 from Fremantle. 

Frank was a POW for approximately two years. He was on board the Italian transport ship Nino Bixio when it was torpedoed by a British submarine in the Mediterranean on 17 August 1942. The Nino Bixio was transporting Allied POWs from Libya to Italy. He was one of the 122 Australian POWs to survive the incident. 

Frank returned to Australia in Nov 1944. He died at age 79.
