He was injured during the fall of Singapore - shrapnel through his thigh. He was cared for in Changi Hospital then served time in Kranji POW camp on the island of Blakang Mati (now Sentosa)

Married Phyllis Edna White after returning from Singapore. Had two sons Ronald John and Warwick.

His father John Henry Aldham was enlisted in WWI and was injured (bullet through his elbow and shrapnel in his leg) on the western front and taken prisoner by the Germans at Soltau.
