Private Glyn Ifor Margets Payne (Service No:WX14501) enlisted in the Australian Army on 23 June 1941. Private Payne served with 2nd/28th Infantry Battalion in the Middle East (13 August 1942 - 24 January 1943) and in New Guinea (4 August 1943 - 16 April 1944). Private Payne was Discharged on 27 September 1945.

Born in 1907 in London England, Glyn was the third of four children (sons) of William James Payne (b1880 in Hackney, London) and Letitia (Annie) Theobold (b1880 in Oxton, England). William (a Builder/Carpenter) and Annie married in London in 1905 and immigrated in 1911, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Otranto. The family settled at Leederville in Perth WA, where William was a Builder/Carpenter.

Glyn worked as a Carpenter in Fremantle with his older brother William, and in 1938 at Mosman Park in Perth, Glyn married Marjorie Alice Topham (b1913 in Fremantle, WA) - Marjorie was working in South Perth as a Book Binder. Glyn and Marjorie settled in Perth where Glyn worked as a Carpenter before retiring to Rockingham WA in the early 1970s. Marjorie died in 1995 and Glyn in 2000.
