Private Edward John Gane (Service No:WX25018) enlisted in the Australian Army on 24 July 1942. He was attached to 2/28 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged on 5 May 1945.

Born in 1921 in Geraldton WA, Edward was the youngest of two children of William Gane (b1875 in Hotham, Victoria) and Sarah Ann Clarkson (b1880 in Greenough, WA). William (a Carrier) and Sarah married in 1900 in Geraldton WA where they settled and raised their family and William worked as a Carrier and for WAGR. In 1950 William and Sarah retired to Margaret River, WA.

Edward worked in Kalgoorlie WA as a Miner following his Discharge and in 1952 in Perth WA he married Gladys May Browning (nee Hagerty; b1917 in Northam, WA) - Gladys was working as a Laundress in Kalgoorlie when they met. Edward and Gladys settled in Perth where Edward was a PMG Employee. Edward died in 1976 and Gladys in 2000.
