Military Medal

On 23 November 1943 'C' Company 2/32 Australian Infantry Battalion were returning from patrolling westwards from the Battalion outpost on the feature known as Pabu 610717 (Fortification Point 1:125000).  During its patrol in the force the company had suffered several casualties which necessitated the carrying of wounded over broken country in addition to having frequent clashes with the enemy during the return jouney.  While endeavouring to get the stretcher cases up a steep slope the enemy launched an unexpected and determined attack on the rear guard.  Lance Corporal Taylor who was the bren gunner of the rear guard advanced towards the enemy firing his gun from the hip.   By his offensive action and accurate fire he inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy which resulted in remnants of the attackers withdrawing into the jungle.  By his courage, coolness and initiative Lance Corporal Taylor's action greatly assisted in repulsing an attack on the company at a time when it was very vulnerable and there is no doubt that the company would have suffered further casulaties but for his action.
