Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Younger of the two brothers (Ron and Jim) who served in WWII, Private James Francis Christensen (Service Nos:N166778/NX126763) initially enlisted in the ACMF on 5 December 1941, and was a Trooper attached to 16 Motor Regiment when he Discharged on 9 July 1942 to enlist the next day 'in the field' in Gympie in the AIF. Private Christensen served with 2/27 Infantry Battalion in New Guinea (6 August 1943 - 1 March 1944) and Borneo (2 June 1945 - 10 January 1946), and was attached to 2/27 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 21 January 1946.

Jim was born in Ballina, New South Wales in 1923, sixth of ten children of Alfred James Christensen (b1892 in Ballina, New South Wales) and Dorothy Sonter (b1893 in Ballina, New South Wales). Alfred and Dorothy married in 1914 in Wardell via Ballina, and settled in Ballina where they raised their family and Alfred was a Mill Worker and Fireman at Messrs Bagot Bros Timber Mill.

Jim worked as a Timber and a Mill Labourer before enlisting in the Army in 1941. Following his Discharge, Jim was a Labourer in Ballina in 1947 when he married Eileen Ursula Ross (b1923 in Ballina, New South Wales). Jim and Eileen settled in Ballina, where they raised their family and Jim - a member of the Ballina Cricket Club -  worked as a Labourer, Sandbelt Operator and Steward. Eileen died in 2012 and Jim in 2016.
