Stan was the second of four children of Thomas Gorringe (b1877 in Sussex, England) and Eleanor Bugden (b1877 in Sussex, England). Thomas (a Hooper) and Eleanor married in 1901 in Sussex and by 1911 Thomas was working as a House Painter. That year he and Eleanor arrived in Fremantle WA with their four children on board the Armadale. The family settled in Perth WA where Thomas was a House Painter.

Stan worked as a Painter and Decorator in Perth WA and was a Physical Instructor in January 1942 when he enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W47046). He was attached to 28 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in October 1944. Stan's brothers Alfred Tomas (Service No:81358) and Maurice George (Service No:WX1190) also served in WWII.

In 1942 Stan married Valmai Hope Fitzell (b1911 in Boulder, WA) - Valmai was a Teacher. The couple settled in Perth, WA where Stan worked as a Painter, Decorator and Sign Writer before becoming a Teacher in the 1950s. Both Stan and Valmai worked as Teachers in Perth. Stan is described (Murdoch University) as 'a painter and signwriter by trade and a keen amateur sportsman who competed in wrestling, rowing, distance running, gymnastics, fencing and weight lifting. Stan was the first winner of the 'Mr Perth' bodybuilding title and first instructor of the WA Fencing Club in 1948'. Stan died in 1986 and Valmai in 1993.
