Arrived in Australia during 1908 aboard Seydlitz with his wife and child.

When enlisting Niels falsified his age by over ten years.

Next of kin given as his daughter Nellie Olsen of Alexander Street, East Bundaberg, QLD. Marital status given as widower, his wife Kersten Olsen nee Larsen having died in 1914.

Commenced return to Australia on 8 April 1917 aboard HT Baramah disembarking on 9 June 1917 at Melbourne for onward travel to Brisbane

Obituary

An old Identity of Bundaberg, Mr. Niels Olsen, of  Maynard Road, died in the District Hospital Childers, yesterday, aged 89. He was a native of Denmark. He served in the first world war in the 42nd Battalion. His wife died 38 years ago and he is survived by a son, Peter, of East Bundaberg, and two daughters, Mrs. A. Blair, of Brisbane, and Mrs. Gertrade Schaffer of Calms. His funeral will take place from the Methodist Church this afternoon at 3 o’clock;
