Eldest of four brothers who served in WWII, Private Ernest William King (Service Nos:W22759/WX34952) initially enlisted in the ACMF at Moora WA on 8 August 1941, and was attached to 13th Infantry Brigade when he enlisted in the AIF on 30 October 1942. In 1943 Private King served in the Northern Territory, and was attached to 16 Infantry Battalion. In December that year he was posted to 28 Infantry Battalion, and Discharged on 26 July 1944.
Eldest of five children, Ernest was born in Norfolk, England in 1908 to Sydney Ernest King (b1876 in Middlesex, England) and Lillian Esther Hatten (b1875 in Suffolk, England). Sydney (a Commercial Clerk) and Lillian (a Domestic Servant) married in Suffolk in 1907, and moved to Norfolk, where Sydney was an Emigration Clerk in 1913 when he and Lillian immigrated with their three children, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Ajana. The family settled in Perth, where Sydney worked as a Shop Assistant and Salesman until his death in 1932.
Ernest was a Farmer in Bullsbrook in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, Ernest remained in Bullsbrook where, in 1952, he married Lilian Rose Sutton (nee Francis; b1908 in Armidale, Victoria) - Lilian was a Widow, Ernest died in 1954 and Lilian in 1986.
