Warrant Officer Lionel Dawson White (Service No:436686) enlisted in the RAAF on 16 March 1943. He had served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W38809) with 28th Battalion from 16 January 1942 to 16 March 1943. Warrant Officer White was attached to 9 Aircrew Holding Unit when he was Discharged on 12 March 1946.
Born in 1923 at Kellerberrin WA, Lionel was the youngest of five children of Lionel Arthur White (b1869 in Perth, WA) and Jean Mary Dawson (b1888 in norwood, South Australia). Lionel Snr (a Farmer at Quairading, WA) and Jean married in 1916 and settled at Quairading where Lionel was a Farmer.
Lionel left school at fifteen years of age and worked on the family farm before enlisting in the ACMF and then RAAF. Following his Discharge, Lionel studied at The University of Western Australia as an Agricultural Scientist and in 1951 joined the Department of Agriculture and Food WA (DAFWA)as an Agricultural Advisor in Katanning. That year Lionel married Joyce (Joy) Margaret Jameson (b1929) in Narrogin WA and then at Northam. In 1966 Lionel was appointed Quarantine Inspector and in the mid 1960s he and Joy settled in Perth WA. Lionel's passion was proper grazing management and in 1977 he was appointed Assistant Director of the Regional Services Division and was Deputy Director (DAFWA) prior to his retirement in 1983. Lionel died in 2001 and Joy in 2020.
