Hugh Henry was born at Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland around 1894.
He came to Australia when he was 21 years old & enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) as a 22 year old Carpenter from Clayfield, Brisbane, Queensland.
Private Hugh Henry, Service number 3544, was transferred to 49th Battalion & landed in France on 12th June, 1916.
He was appointed Lance Corporal on 25th August, 1916.
Lance Corporal Hugh Henry was wounded in action on 3rd September, 1916 with gunshot wounds to thigh & arm.
He was invalided to England & admitted to V.A.D. Hospital at Abbotts Barton, Canterbury on 10th September, 1916 with shrapnel wounds to arm joint & thigh fracture - severe. He was transferred to Military Hospital at Shorncliffe, Kent on 12th September, 1916.
Lance Corporal Hugh Henry died on 12th September, 1916 at Military Hospital, Shorncliffe, Kent, England from wounds received in action – shell wounds to right thigh & arm.
He was buried in Canterbury Cemetery, Kent, England.
