War Service/Promotions: To 14th Training Battalion, Codford, England, 27 December 1917. Admitted No. 3 New Zealand General Hospital, with mumps, 10 February 1918. Discharged from hospital 26 February 1918 to Training Depot. Proceeded overseas to France via Dover on 1 April 1918. Marched into No. 4 Medical Base Depot, Calais, France, on 1 April 1918. On 12 April 1918 admitted to hospital ex 1st Aust. Divisional Reinforcements Wing. Invalided to U.K. on 18 April 1918 and admitted Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, Surrey, England, 19 April 1918, with influenza. Transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital on 30 April 1918. On 4 July 1918 proceeded overseas to France. He was court martialled on 16 October 1918 for desertion, and sentenced to 3 years penal servitude. His sentence was suspended on 25 April 1919.

Fate: Returned to Australia per SS Ormonde, 16 June 1919. He married (1) Grace Mary Robinson, 27 August 1921, Narrabri, NSW. He married (2) Mary Eileen Smith, 1951, Kogarah, NSW.
