Private Vere Alexander Paine (Service No:V67975) enlisted in the ACMF on 1 January 1940 and was attached to 32nd Battalion. On 29 January 1942 he was transferred to 'Area 32B - Industrial Hardship'. Siblings George and Walter also served in WWII

The second of three children of George Alexander Paine (b1895 in Williamstown, Melbourne, Victoria) and Hilda Mavis Boyd (b1894 in Melbourne, Victoria), Vere (aka Bill) was born in 1919 in Williamstown, Melbourne, Victoria. George (a Cartage Contractor) and Hilda married in 1915 in Melbourne Victoria, where they settled and raised their family and George was a Cartage Contractor.

Bill worked as a Truck Driver in Williamstown, Melbourne before enlisting in the ACMF. In 1942 in Melbourne, Bill married Joyce Fisher (b1920 in Melbourne, Victoria). The couple settled in Newport where Bill worked as a Clerk. He died in 1978 and Joyce in 2004.
