Regret was expressed at the death of Mr. Lubin James Robertson, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Robertson, of Wangaratta. Death took place at his parents' residence, where he had come recently from Porepunkah, intending to make his home at Wangaratta. Mr. Robertson was aged 41 years. He was born at Boweya and spent much of his early life at Milawa. He joined tho staff of the Bank of New South Wales at Wangaratta in 1911, and was transferred to Sydney the next year. When the war broke out he and his brother, Wiliam F., enlisted, and he left Australia as a lieutenant in the 37th Battalion in June, 1915. He served with distinction in France, and was awarded the decoration of M.C, as well as the Croix de Guerre. He had been recommended for the V.C., but the officer who made the recommendation was captured by tho Germans, together with his papers. Lieut. Robertson was badly gassed and severely wounded in tho second battle of Passchendaele, while his brother William, who held the rank of lieutenant, was killed at Messines. Lieut. Robertson never recovered from his war injuries, and returned to Australia in June, 1919. Some years ago he had to resign from the bank owing to the effects of his war injuries, which ultimately caused his death. He was a fine type of the Australian soldier, and had made many friends throughout the district. He leaves a wife and two: children, Eleanor and James.
