Thomas was the fourth of five children of James Rickard Hokin (b1878 in Maldon, Victoria) and Grace Murrell (b1880 in Tumbarumba, NSW). James - a Farmer - and Grace married in 1903 in Maldon, Victoria where theys ettled and raised their family.

Thomas was working as a Farm Hand in Ravenswood, Victoria when he enlisted in the ACMF in March 1941. He was a Private (Service No:V65210) attached to 38 Battalion when he was Discharged in November 1942.

In 1951 Thomas - a Farm Hand in Ravenswood -  married Ida Lorraine Paynter (b1917 in Wyecheproof, Victoria) in Geelong, Victoria. Ida - a Tailoress in Geelong had served with the Australian Women's Army  Service (Private; Service No:VF516400) in WWII.

Thomas and Ida setteld in Ravenswood, where Thomas worked as a Farm Hand. In the mid 1960s they moved into Geelong where Thomas was a Labourer (Railways). Ida died in January 1993 and Thomas died in June 1993.
