Private Francis Robert Gourley (Service No:V45184) enlisted in the ACMF at Wangaratta, Victoria on 12 August 1940, and served with 59 Battalion until 14 January 1942 (Reserved Occupation). His father served in WWI and brother served in the ACMF in WWII.
Francis was born in Warragul, Victoria in 1920, eldest of two sons of Alfred (Alf) James Gourley (b1882 in Poowong, Victoria) and Georgina (Gina) Eva Freckleton (b1890 in Buln Buln, Victoria). Alf served in the AIF in WWI, and in 1919 was a Labourer when he and Gina married in Warragul. Alf and Gina lived in Thorpedale and Greta where they raised their family and Alf was a Farmer.
Francis worked as a Farmer/Labourer in Wangaratta and Greta, and in 1953 in Moyhu married Heather Margaret Younger (b1926 in Moyhu, Victoria). Francis and Heather settled in Mohu and Wangaratta where they raised their family and Francis was a Farmer. Francis died in 1974 and Heather in 2006.
