William John Stanton 1902-1989
After the war William John Stanton joined the Legion of Ex-Servicemen and was the Secretary of the Liverpool Sub-Branch and was councillor for the Legion. He worked for the Railways Department for many years and was the President of the Australian Railways Union for many years. He was also senior vice-president of the Liverpool branch of the ALP. He served as an Alderman on Liverpool City Council NSW Australia from 1950-1959 with a short break from 1954-1956. During this time he had a street in Liverpool named after him - Stanton Street. In 1951 at a meeting he asked if a move had been made to convene a public meeting for the formation of a historical society. At the same meeting a letter was received from the Legion of Ex-Servicemen and Women's Liverpool Sub-branch, advising that Mr W J Stanton had been nominated as custodian of the Memorial Pillars.
