Private Lawrence Henry Spark (Service No:VX73487) enlisted in the Army on 27 January 1942 and was attached to AIF Details Depot and 55th Division Ordnance Workshop - graded Boot/Shoemaker. Private Spark was attached to 6th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 21 April 1944.

Born in Ballarat, Victoria in 1902, Laurie was fifth of fourteen children of Archibald (Arch) Leslie Spark (b1874 in New Chum via Bendigo, Victoria) and Jessica (Jessie) Violet Ah Tann (b1877 at Sago Hill, Ballarat, Victoria). Arch was a Miner in 1894 when he and Jessie married in Strathfieldsaye, Bendigo, Victoria. They settled in Ballarat where they raised their family and Arch worked as a Miner and Carter.

Laurie was a Bootmaker in Ballarat in 1923 when he married Gladys May Jeffs (b1900 at Swan Hill, Victoria). They lived in Ballarat, where Laurie was a Bootmaker. Following Gladys' death in 1928, Laurie settled in Melbourne where he worked as a Tram Conductor and was living with de facto wife Mona Richardson (b1911 in Ecucha, Victoria) in 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge in 1944, Laurie married Ruby Phyllis McPhail (b1910 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Ruby worked in Melbourne as a Factory Worker and Saleswoman. Laurie and Ruby settled in Melbourne, where Laurie worked as a Tram Conductor until the early 1960s when he returned to Bootmaking. Laurie died in 1967 and Ruby in 1994.
