Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Noel Edmund Watt Stuchbury (Service No:WX5867) enlisted in the AIF on 29 June 1940, and was attached to 2/16th Infantry Battalion on 25 October 1940 when he embarked with his Unit from Fremantle for Palestine. Private Stuchbury embarked from Suez for Fremantle on 29 January 1942, and was attached to 2/16th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 22 November 1944.

Noel was born in Collie, Western Australia in 1921, second child of Cyril Edmund Houghton Stuchbury (b1885 at Yatala Plains, South Australia) and Kathleen (Polly) Mary Dawson (b1900 in Townsville, QLD). Cyril lived in Collie, where he was a Miner (and football player for Collie Miners) when he enlisted in the AIF in WWI (Private; Service No:721). Following his Discharge, he returned to Collie, and he and Polly married in 1920 in Perth. They lived in Collie (where Cyril was a Miner) until the late 1920s, then lived in Perth and Walpole, where they raised their family and Cyril was a Labourer and Telephone Linesman. In 1941, Cyril gave his employment as Cook when he enlisted in the ACMF.

Noel worked in Walpole as a Farm Hand prior to enlisting in the Army in 1940. He was in Brisbane, QLD in 1943 when he married Phyllis Williams (b1922 in Brisbane, QLD), and following his Discharge, he and Phyllis settled in Perth, where they raised their family and Noel worked as a Stone Mason. In 1950 Noel died of poisoning, and Phyllis returned to Brisbane with their three children, and later remarried.
