Private Basil Currey (Service No:V50649) enlisted in the ACMF in April 1940 and served with 8 Battalion VDC. Brother Kevin (Service Nos:VX39010/V50264) also served in WWII.
Born in 1918 in Streatham, Corangamite, Victoria Basil was th eldest child of James Patrick Curley (b1873 at Golden Plains nr Ballarat, Victoria) and Mary Josephine Murphy (b1888 in Murtoa, Wimmera, Victoria). James (a Commission Agent) and Mary married in 1918 in Streatham, Victoria where they settled and James worked as a Commission Agent.
In 1939 Basil was a Motor Mechanic in Streatham, Victoria. Following his father's death in 1942, Basil settled in Melbourne, Victoria where he worked as a Fitter and Turner. Basil died in 1978.
